NORFOLK, Va. - Over the next few weeks ODUSports will begin to introduce the women’s soccer incoming class of 2015 with a weekly profile. First up as announced by head coach Angie Hind, is Cristina Bashara is five-foot three-inch midfielder/defender from Maury High School in Norfolk, Va.

"I am delighted to welcome Cristina to our women's soccer program,” said Hind. “We look everywhere in the US and internationally to find student-athletes that can impact our program and help take us to the next level, but it is especially pleasing to be able to recruit one of the best local talents. In my opinion, there is something very special in being able to represent your local University and I think Cristina will be not only be a great asset to our program as a soccer player but also as part of the greater Lady Monarch family.”

Bashara earned a letter all four years while playing at Maury High School. In 9th and 10th grade, she was named to the First Team All Eastern District and Second Team All Region. Last season, Cristina garnered First Team All Conference 9, Second Team All Group 5A South Region and Second Team All Tidewater honors. She played her club ball with Beach FC.

Hind continued, “Cristina is an extremely talented player who has the versatility to play both midfield and defense as well as the athletic potential and leadership qualities that can add much to our style of play. As a person, she is first class and has shown throughout the recruiting process that ODU is absolutely where her heart is and so I am thrilled to have her as part of our team this Fall."

Bashara exclaimed, “Growing up down the street from ODU, it has always been a dream of mine to play college soccer in what is more or less my own neighborhood. I’ve gone to ODU soccer camps since I was about seven and I’ve always gone to their games, so being able to meet players and be a part of the atmosphere during games has always made me love Old Dominion.  I’m very excited to be a part of this new era in ODU women’s soccer, as the program begins to rise and I look forward to playing in a competitive environment.”
