BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Old Dominion sophomore guard Jennie Simms was named to the Conference USA All Tournament Team following Saturday night’s championship game. For the three tournament games, Simms averaged 23.6 points, nine rebounds, two assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.6 steals per contest. The Accokeek, Maryland-native also played 112 out of 120 possible minutes in the three ballgames in Birmingham. Joining Simms on the All-Tournament Team were: Alexis Govan (WKU – MVP), Chastity Gooch (WKU), Tamara Jones (Southern Miss), Voche' Martin (Southern Miss). Simms was the only player not featured in the championship game to appear on the All Tournament Team.
Simms led the Lady Monarchs to two wins this week, before ODU’s 22-point comeback against No. 1 seeded Western Kentucky fell just two points shy (61-59). In that contest, Simms led the way for ODU, pouring in 23 of her game-high 25 points in the second half, sparking the furious Old Dominion rally.
Last week, Simms was named the C-USA Newcomer of the Year. She ranked second in the conference in scoring at 18.8 ppg, upping that to 19.9 in league action, to receive a first-team nod. She has 10 double-doubles this year and has logged double-figure points in all but three games with 12 games of topping the 20-point mark, including a career-high 45-point outburst in the 80-67 win at FIU. The Accokeek, Maryland, native holds an 8.0 rebounds per game average.
