Standing Scores Four as ODU Defeats Davidson, 10-8

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion Lady Monarch lacrosse team garnered their fourth win of the season Sunday afternoon against Davidson College by a score of 10-8. The Lady Monarchs were led in scoring by Ashmore Standing who had four goals and two assists for ODU. Old Dominion improves to 4-1 on the season, while Davidson falls to 1-2 overall.

The Lady Monarchs looked strong in the first half of play on the rainy Sunday afternoon by opening up the game with four goals in the first nine minutes of action. Cydney Tutchton scored the first point in the game from an assist by Standing at the 26:53 mark. Two minutes later (24:50), Standing gathered her first goal of the day off a Megan Topper assist. Standing had two more goals in the first half, both of which were unassisted. Her second goal of the day came at the 23:21 mark, while her third goal, and last of the half, came with just 3:21 minutes to go.

Three other Lady Monarchs put the ball in the net in the first half to make the score going into halftime 7-2. To go along with Standing’s three goals and Tutchton’s one, Natalie Ledwitz scored on a free position shot (21:35), Jessica Liberty scored off of an assist from Standing at 13:02 and Morgan Marrale scored from a Liberty pass with 9:27 remaining.

Davidson made their first goal at the 23:39 minute mark of the first half, their first of two goals. Annie Brockett made the unassisted goal off of a free position shot. The Wildcats second goal came almost ten minutes (14:15) later when Emily Cooke took the shot off an assist from Brockett.

The second half showed more promise offensively from the Wildcats, as they scored six points. Tutchton once again opened the period with a tally, this time off a free-position shot.

Davidson would then go on a 5-0 surge to pull within one point (8-7) with 16:24 left to play. Five different Wildcats scored, while Brockett and Emily Rademacher each notched a goal and an assist during that span.

The Monarchs ended the game with two goals in the final 10 minutes from Connor Carson and Standing to secure the win.

ODU led Davidson in shots (27-20), while the Wildcats held an edge in ground balls (21-18) and draw controls (15-6).

Karen Hayde picked up the win in goal for the Monarchs, playing the entire game and finishing with six saves. Katy Boyle suffered the loss and made 11 saves for the Wildcats.

Standing led the offense with four goals and two assists to go along with her four caused turnovers and two ground balls. Tutchton added two markers and was 1-for-1 on free position shots. Morgan Gallagher paced the defense with three caused turnovers and four ground balls.

Brockett led the Wildcats' offense with two goals and two assists, while Holly Thomas led the back line with three caused turnovers and three ground balls.

The Monarchs will be back in action on March 4, as they travel to Richmond to take on the Spiders at 5:00 p.m.
