CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the second time this season, the Old Dominion University women’s basketball team (13-7, 6-3) will take on Charlotte (8-13, 4-5) on Saturday, Feb. 7 at Halton Arena with tipoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EST. In the two squads’ first meeting, ODU took down the 49ers by a score of 66-57 at the Ted Constant Center. Old Dominion is currently riding a three-game winning streak.

Entering this week, the Lady Monarchs sit in a three-way tie for third place in the C-USA standings along with Southern Miss and LA Tech.

HOW TO TUNE IN
Saturday’s contest will be audio streamed through Monarch Media on ODUSports.com and will also air live on STAR 1310 AM Hampton Roads with Doug Ripley (Voice of the Lady Monarchs) on play-by-play and Susan Montgomery (former Lady Monarch assistant coach) handling color duties. Their pregame show will begin live at 6:30 EST.

Saturday’s contest will be the 15th meeting between the 49ers of Charlotte and the Old Dominion Lady Monarchs, and the second this season. During the last encounter between these two teams, the Lady Monarchs handled the 49ers with a 66-57 win on January 4, 15 at the Ted. Charlotte currently sits 10th in the Conference-USA standings with a 4-5 mark.

ABOUT THE LADY MONARCHS
Old Dominion enters Thursday’s contest with a 13-7 overall record along with a 6-3 C-USA mark with an impressive 7-2 record away from the Ted. ODU currently is third in the conference for field-goal percentage shooting 37.7%.

Jennie Simms ranks 47th in the country second in the conference in points per game, netting 18.4 a contest. Simms also leads the squad in rebounds, grabbing 7.1 boards a contest. Tiffany Minor is sixth in the conference in three-point field goals per game averaging 1.80. Destinee Young is fifth on the Conference USA blocked shots per game ladder, averaging 1.30 an outing.

The Lady Monarchs are allowing 60.2 points per game, while opponents shoot 37.7% from the floor against ODU. Old Dominion averages 15.7 forced turnovers a contest.

Chelisa Painter is averaging 7.5 ppg to go along with 4.5 boards a contest. Tiffany Minor averages 7.1 points to compliment 4.9 rebounds per game.

Ashley-Betz White currently leads the squad in assists (57) and steals (34). Destinee Young is Old Dominion’s second leading rebounder averaging 6.7 per contest, with 52 of her 134 total boards coming on the offensive end. Young is the Lady Monarchs leading shot blocker with 26 rejections so far this season.

ABOUT CHARLOTTE
The 49ers enter Saturday’s contest with an 8-13 overall record and a 4-5 mark in Conference USA. Charlotte is coming off an 81-62 victory at FIU, in a ballgame that the 49ers shot a near season-high 53.0 percent from the floor, while forcing 19 turnovers on the defensive end. Charlotte was propelled by a trio of double-figure scorers with senior Hillary Sigmon leading the way with 19 points.

They look to their sophomore guard Lefty Webster, who is averaging 13.0 points-per-game and 5.9 rebounds-per-game and senior guard Hillary Sigmon, who is averaging 10.8 points-per-game and 2.4 rebounds-per-game. Junior guard Kira Gordon, is averaging 10.2 point-per-game and 6.5 rebounds-per-game and has started all 21 games for the 49ers.

The Lady Monarchs will return home next week for two consecutive home contests at the Ted: Thursday, Feb. 12, against UTSA (7:00 p.m.) and then the HOOPS FOR A CURE ballgame on Sat., Feb. 14, against UTEP (2:00 p.m.).
