NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University women’s basketball team (16-10, 9-6) will play at home one more time for the 2014-15 regular season on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 1:00 p.m. EST, when they take on North Texas (5-21, 4-11). Saturday’s contest will also mark Senior Day for Tiffany Minor and Chelisa Painter, who will be honored with their families prior to tip-off.

HOW TO TUNE IN
Saturday’s contest will be video/audio streamed live through Monarch Media on ODUSports.com and will also air live on ESPN 94.1 FM Hampton Roads with Doug Ripley (Voice of the Lady Monarchs) handling the duties. The live pregame show will begin at 12:30 p.m. EST.

Saturday’s game against North Texas will be only the third meeting between the two programs, but the second of the season. The series is currently tied, 1-1, against the Mean Green. In the last encounter between these two teams, the Lady Monarchs beat the Mean Green in Denton, Texas by a 54-44 margin on January 17, 2015.

ABOUT THE LADY MONARCHS (16-10, 9-6)
Old Dominion enters Saturday’s contest on a two-game winning streak after an impressive 72-71 nail-biting victory at LA Tech last Sunday and then soaring past Rice (83-68) on Thursday afternoon. ODU sports a 16-10 overall record along with an 9-6 C-USA mark with an impressive 8-4 record away from the Ted.

The Lady Monarchs sit alone in the fourth spot of the Conference USA standings after UTEP took down LA Tech on Friday afternoon. The top four seeds from the regular season will receive a first round bye in the C-USA Tournament in Birmingham, Ala.

With three regular season games remaining, all against conference foes, Old Dominion has already tied its in conference win total from last season of nine.

ODU currently is third in the conference for field-goal percentage defense, holding opponents to 37.8% shooting. The Lady Monarchs are allowing 62.1 points per game. Old Dominion averages 15.7 forced turnovers a contest. ODU currently sits second in Conference USA for average attendance, drawing 2,733 fans to each home game at the Ted. ODU sits at the top in the conference for defensive rebounds, averaging 28.4 per contest

Jennie Simms ranks 46th in the country third in the conference in points per game, netting 18.4 a contest. Simms also leads the squad in rebounds, grabbing 7.5 boards a contest. Tiffany Minor shoots 32.5% from deep, which is third in the conference for 3PT%, while she is fourth in the conference in three-point field goals per game averaging 2.04. Destinee Young is eighth in the Conference USA blocked shots per game ladder, averaging 1.19 an outing.

Tiffany Minor averages 7.9 points to compliment 4.8 rebounds per game. Ashley-Betz White currently leads the squad in assists (77) and steals (41), while averaging 6.5 points a ballgame. Destinee Young is Old Dominion’s second leading rebounder averaging 6.5 per contest, with 66 of her 169 total boards coming on the offensive end. Young is the Lady Monarchs leading shot blocker with 31 rejections so far this season.

ABOUT NORTH TEXAS (5-21, 4-11)
North Texas enters Saturday’s contest with an 5-21 overall record and a 4-11 C-USA mark. The Mean Green have posted a 4-10 record while playing at home, and just a 1-11 record on the road. North Texas is coming into Saturday’s game after falling to Charlotte in Charlotte by a 46-71 margin.

North Texas averages 51.5 points per contest, while giving up 61.5 points per game to their opponents. The Mean Green force18.7 turnovers a game and give the ball up 18.6 times per contest.

The Mean Green is lead by senior guard BreAnna Dawkins who is averaging 10.5 points-per-game and 3.9 rebounds-per-game and by sophomore guard Candice Adams, 6.2 ppg and 2.5 rpg.
