NORFOLK, Va. – After being named an additional nominee last week, Old Dominion senior attacker Jessica Liberty was named the Atlantic-Sun Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. This honor marks the first for Liberty and the second for ODU this season.
Liberty helped the Monarchs to a 2-0 weekend to post a 3-0 start to the season for the first time since 2009. The Monarchs took down Campbell, 18-12, on Friday and followed with a 19-7 victory over Longwood on Sunday. Liberty finished the weekend with seven goals and one assist to total eight points. Her seven goals came on only 11 shots on goal for an 84.6 shot-on-goal percentage. She also tallied seven ground balls and two caused turnovers over the weekend.
The East Setauket, N.Y. native currently leads the team in points with 15 and goals, recording 12 in three games. Liberty has also scooped up a team-leading 11 ground balls. In the conference standings, her point and goal totals rank second, while her 11 ground balls ranks fourth.
The Monarchs also saw junior midfielder Morgan Gallagher named an additional nominee for the weekly defensive honor. She paced the back line with five caused turnovers and five ground balls.
