NORFOLK, Va. – The 11th Karen Barefoot Coach’s Show of the season is on Tuesday, Feb. 24 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Barefoot will join host Doug Ripley (Voice of the Lady Monarchs) live at the YNOT Pizza and Italian Cuisine in the University Village on ESPN Radio 94.1 FM (home of Lady Monarchs basketball).
Lady Monarch sophomore Annika Holopainen will be the guest-speaker for Tuesday night’s show.
Holopainen stole the show on a televised ballgame on Sunday afternoon in Ruston, La. Coming into the contest, Annika had scored 27 points all season. On Sunday, she went for 26. All 26 points were much needed in Old Dominion’s 72-71 victory over fourth place LA Tech.
In a first half that ODU trailed by as many as 12 points, Holopainen sparked the Lady Monarchs off the bench, drilling eight of her first nine first half field goal attempts and four of her first five three-point shots, netting 20 first half points. Holopainen also hauled down five rebounds, dished out three assists and tallied two steals in the winning effort.
But the play of the week occurred as the Lady Monarchs trailed by two points in the closing moments on Sunday, when Holopainen drilled a contested three-pointer from the corner with just three seconds left to lift Old Dominion over the Lady Techsters on Senior and Legends Day.

Old Dominion will return home for its final two home games of the 2014-15 regular season, as the Lady Monarchs will play host to Rice on the morning of Thursday, Feb. 26 at 11:00 a.m. for the program’s first ever Field Trip Day. Then on Saturday, Feb. 28, ODU will celebrate Senior Day against North Texas. Saturday’s tipoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
