HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Old Dominion University women’s basketball team (14-9, 7-5) will take on Southern Miss (17-7, 10-3) on Thurs., Feb. 19, at 7:00 p.m. EST. at the Reed Green Coliseum.

FLASHBACK
During the 2013-14 regular season, Old Dominion took down USM, 92-82, giving ODU its first ever win in Conference USA. With the win, Old Dominion snapped the Golden Eagle’s 12-game home win-streak. Later the same season, Southern Miss bounced the Lady Monarchs from the Quarterfinals of the Conference USA Tournament in El Paso, Texas.

Thursday’s contest will be audio streamed through Monarch Media on ODUSports.com and will also air live on STAR 1310 AM Hampton Roads with Doug Ripley (Voice of the Lady Monarchs) handling the duties. The pregame show will begin live at 6:30 EST.

Thursday’s contest will be only the third meeting between the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss and the Old Dominion Lady Monarchs. During the last encoun­ter between these two teams, the Lady Monarchs lost to the Golden Eagles at the C-USA Tournament by an 83-64 margin on March 13, 2014. Southern Miss currently sits 3rd in the Conference-USA standings with a 10-3 record.

ABOUT THE LADY MONARCHS
Old Dominion enters Thursday’s contest with a 14-9 overall record along with a 7-5 C-USA mark with an impressive 7-3 record away from the Ted. ODU currently is fourth in the conference for field-goal percentage defense, holding opponents to 37.7% shooting.

Jennie Simms ranks 46th in the country third in the conference in points per game, netting 18.8 a contest. Simms also leads the squad in rebounds, grabbing 7.2 boards a contest. Tiffany Minor is fifth in the conference in three-point field goals per game averaging 1.91. Destinee Young is sixth on the Conference USA blocked shots per game ladder, averaging 1.17 an outing.

The Lady Monarchs are allowing 60.4 points per game, while opponents shoot 37.7% from the floor against ODU. Old Dominion averages 15.9 forced turnovers a contest.

Tiffany Minor averages 7.6 points to compliment 4.7 rebounds per game. Chelisa Painter is averaging 6.8 ppg to go along with 4.0 boards a contest.

Ashley-Betz White currently leads the squad in assists (66) and steals (37), while averaging 7.6 points a ballgame. Destinee Young is Old Dominion’s second leading rebounder averaging 6.7 per contest, with 59 of her 153 total boards coming on the offensive end. Young is the Lady Monarchs leading shot blocker with 27 rejections so far this season.

ABOUT SOUTHERN MISS
Southern Mississippi enters Thursday’s contest with a 17-7 overall record and a 10-3 C-USA mark. The Golden Eagles have posted a 10-2 record while playing at home, and a 7-5 record on the road. Southern Miss is coming into today’s game on a five game winning streak going back to January 31. In their wake, they have toppled WKU, Middle Tennessee, UAB, FIU and FAU.

Southern Miss averages 68.0 points per contest, while giving up 61.5 points per game to their opponents. The Golden Eagles force 20.3 turnovers a game, but give the ball up 17.9 times per contest.

The Golden Eagles are lead by senior forward Tamara Jones who is averaging 16.5 points-per-game and 6.5 rebounds-per-game and by junior guard Jerontay Clemons, 12.4 ppg and 6.3 rpg.
