NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s lacrosse team opens up the 2015 season on the road at Garder-Webb Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Spangler Stadium.

The Monarchs begin their first season in the Atlantic Sun Conference and were picked second in the leagues preseason poll, just six points behind defending champions Jacksonville. ODU return 21 players from last season, including Preseason All-Conference selections Ashmore Standing and Jessica Liberty.

Standing completed the 2014 campaign ranked fourth on the team in total points, racking up 27 on 23 goals and four assists. She also ranked third on the team with 25 ground balls, fourth with 15 draw controls and caused 22 turnovers.

Liberty finished last season second on the team in points. She recorded 36 total markers on 24 goals and 12 assists, which was tied for first on the team. She won 10 draw controls, added nine ground balls and caused six turnovers as well.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb begin their inaugural season against the Lady Monarchs on Saturday. The first-year program is led by Jacquelyn Duggins, who came to Gardner-Webb after one season as an assistant coach at Liberty, where she helped the Flames to 4-3 mark in the Big South Conference in 2013 and a program-record eight wins overall in the program's fourth season of existence.

She graduated from Virginia Tech, where she played with the Hokies' lacrosse team for three seasons. She collected 56 ground balls as a defender during her three seasons and forced 17 turnovers. Duggins played her freshman season at Old Dominion.
