NORFOLK, Va. – Carlos Lopez Villa of the Old Dominion men’s tennis team will begin the 2015 spring season ranked No. 43 in the country, which is the second highest mark in Conference USA. According to the most recent ITA Rankings Tomas Stillman (UTSA) is ranked one spot higher than Lopez Villa in the No. 42 slot.
Lopez Villa, who tallied a 20-1 record last season ended the year winning nine matches in a row. Astonishingly, Carlos has compiled a 38-2 record over the past two seasons in an Old Dominion University uniform.
Last November, Carlos became just the second male in school history to capture the Regional Single’s crown. Then in May, Lopez Villa was named the sole 2014 recipient of the ITA Arthur Ashe Jr. Leadership and Sportsmanship Award for the entire Atlantic region.
This past fall, Lopez Villa won his first round match after being just one of 48 players to earn an automatic bid to the 2014 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championship’s Main Draw.
Lopez Villa and the rest of the ODU Tennis Monarchs will kick off the 2015 spring season January 18 at Navy at 3:00 p.m.
