BOCA RATON, Fla. – In a ballgame ODU never trailed, Jennie Simms led all scorers and four Lady Monarchs in double-figures with 19 points and 10 rebounds to carry Old Dominion (13-7, 6-3) over Florida Atlantic (10-9, 4-4) by a score of 72-44 on Saturday night at FAU Arena. ODU held FAU to just 28.6% (18-63) shooting from the floor for the contest. Old Dominion is now on a three-game winning streak and is 7-2 away from home this season.

Also in double figures for ODU were: Destinee Young (13 points and 10 rebounds), Ashley Betz-White (11 points and five assists) and Chelisa Painter (10 points and eight rebounds). LaQuanda younger chipped in nine points and seven rebounds in the winning effort.

The Lady Monarchs stormed out of the gates claiming a 16-4 lead after a LaQuanda Younger made three-pointer at the 14:34 mark. Jennie Simms and Destinee Young combined for 11 of ODU’s first 13 points, while FAU went on a scoring draught that lasted nearly five minutes (0-9 FG during that span).

FAU started the contest 0-10 from three-point range and 3-21 (14.3%) from the floor, while Old Dominion stretched it advantage to 26-8 with 7:33 remaining in the opening half. By the last media timeout of the first 20 minutes, which occurred at the 3:30 mark, the Lady Monarchs held a 30-10 lead, while holding FAU to 16% shooting from the floor (4-25).

Old Dominion took a 38-19 lead into the locker rooms at halftime, behind a half-high 10 points from Jennie Simms to compliment five rebounds. Destinee Young followed with nine points and a half-high seven rebounds. LaQuanda Younger (five rebounds) and Ashley Betz-White each netted six first half points, respectively. Ali Gorrell led the way for the Owls in the first half with eight points.

ODU shot 42.9% (15-35) from the floor in the opening half, 30% (3-10) from three and 71.4% (5-7) from the free-throw line. Florida Atlantic shot 24.1% (7-29) from the floor, 8.3% (1-12) from three and 80% (4-5) from the FT line.

Old Dominion kept a 20-point advantage at the under-12 media timeout of the second half by a score of 52-32 with 11:55 showing on the game-clock. By the under-eight media timeout, ODU led Florida Atlantic 62-39 at the 6:29 mark. The Lady Monarchs held a 68-42 lead at the last media break of the ballgame with 3:11 remaining in regulation.

Old Dominion claimed its largest lead of the contest at the 1:01 mark after claiming a 72-44 advantage, in which would be the final score on Friday night at FAU Arena.

The Owls were led by Shaneese Bailey (15 points and seven boards) and Ali Gorrell (10 points).

For the ballgame, Old Dominion connected on 39.4% (26-66) from the floor, 35.3% (6-17) from three and 82.4% (14-17) from the free-throw line. FAU shot just 28.6% (18-63) from the floor, 11.1% (2-18) from deep and 66.7% (6-9) from the charity stripe.
