NORFOLK, Va. – After four consecutive road contests, the Old Dominion University women’s basketball team (7-4) will play host to the Charlotte 49ers (4-8) on Sunday, Jan. 4 at the Ted Constant Center at 2:00 p.m. Sunday’s ballgame will mark the Conference USA opener for both squads.

Sunday’s contest will be video streamed live in HD through Monarch Media on ODUSports.com and will also air live on STAR 1310 AM (Hampton Roads) with Doug Ripley (Voice of the Lady Monarchs) handling the duties.

ALL-TIME SERIES

The women’s basketball game against Charlotte will be the 14th encounter between the 49ers and the Lady Monarchs, which dates back to when the two programs played in the Sun Belt Conference together. The last meeting resulted in a Charlotte 80-59 win over the Lady Monarchs on January 8, 2014.

ABOUT THE LADY MONARCHS
Old Dominion enters Sunday’s contest with a 7-4 overall record, after key wins at Virginia Tech, against VCU and on a neutral court against UIC. The Lady Monarchs are allowing 62.0 points per game, while opponents shoot 40.1% from the floor against ODU. Old Dominion averages forcing 16.2 turnovers a contest.

Jennie Simms (earned Most Outstanding Player honors at the 2014 South Point Holiday Hoops Classic in Las Vegas) has led the Lady Monarchs so far this season with 16.8 points and 6.4 rebounds. Chelisa Painter is also averaging double figures (10.1 ppg) to go along with 6.0 boards a contest. Tiffany Minor averages 8.3 points to compliment 5.5 rebounds per game.

Ashley-Betz White currently leads the squad in assists (35) and steals (21). Destinee Young is Old Dominion’s leading rebounder averaging 6.5 per contest, with 30 of her 72 total boards coming on the offensive end. Young is the Lady Monarchs leading shot blocker with 19 rejections so far this season.

ABOUT CHARLOTTE
The 49ers enter Sunday’s game with a 4-8 record for the 2014-15 season. Charlotte is coming into Sunday’s game after losing a close game to Utah 52-54 on Dec. 29.

They look to their sophomore guard Lefty Webster, who is averaging 12.5 points-per-game and 5.6 rebounds-per-game and senior guard Hillary Sigmon, who is averaging 10.6 points-per-game and 2.2 rebounds-per-game. Sigmon is back for the 49ers after having missed two games.

In Case You Missed It
Dec. 3, 2014 marked the first ever sellout at the Ted Constant Center (8,472) for the Old Dominion women’s basketball team, in a game that Lady Monarchs cruised past Howard by a score of 75-54.

The crowd of 8,472 is the seventh highest attendance ever in the state of Virginia to watch a regular season college women’s basketball game. The crowd was also the second largest for a Lady Monarchs regular season game ever, the first coming on Feb. 20, 1981 when the Norfolk Scope drew 10,277 to watch ODU fall to LA Tech, 75-59.
