Dr. April Brecht, the Director of Student Athlete Academic Services, has been recognized by Old Dominion University as a recipient of the John R. Broderick Diversity Champion Award for 2014-15.
A 16-year veteran of the athletic department, Brecht was honored for her development of a life skills program for all student-athletes, that helps bridge the gap from college to their careers. She also oversees the NCAA Student-Athlete Affairs programs on ODU’s campus, which helps provide accessible resources and support for student athletes in academics, athletics, personal development, and career development. Through the PRIDE program, Brecht helps create other programming opportunities for student-athletes, including a career fair, stress management workshops, and domestic violence awareness events.
Brecht joins ODU football coach Bobby Wilder as a Broderick Diversity Champion award winner this year from athletics
