ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Former Old Dominion University quarterback Taylor Heinicke will play in the 90th annual East-West Shrine game on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 4 p.m. The game will be broadcast on the NFL Network.

“Everyone associated with ODU football is excited for Taylor Heinicke. All indications from my conversations with Taylor and feedback I have received from the NFL scouts in attendance is that Taylor has had a great week of practice and interviews with NFL representatives,” ODU Head Coach Bobby Wilder said.  “Most people do not realize that the week of work leading up to the game is more important than the game itself. With three quarterbacks on the East squad Taylor will get limited action in the game. He went to Tampa with tremendous focus on making an impression on the NFL representatives and he accomplished that goal.”

He passed for more than 300 yards five times, including a pair of 400 yard games against Rice and Western Kentucky, a pair of teams playing in a bowl game.  Heinicke was 27-for-43 for 430 yards and a season-best five touchdown passes and one rushing in the win at Rice, while going 27-for-40 for 471 yards and three touchdowns at WKU.
