Norfolk, Va. – Old Dominion University football will open spring football practice on Saturday, Feb. 28. The Monarchs are allowed 15 spring practices and will play the annual spring game on Saturday, April 11.
More information on the spring game will be announced in the coming weeks.
10 Student-Athletes Enroll for Spring Semester
ODU signed 10 players at the mid-year signing period on Dec. 18. All 10 are currently enrolled in classes and have joined the Monarchs’ off-season listing program and will practice with the Monarchs during spring ball. Tony Barnett, Devon Brown, Jeremy Cox, Jaylin Jeffries, Jordan Petty, Richard Thomas, Joey Verhaegh, Tim Ward, Derek Wilder and Shadow Williams started classes on Monday.
All-Star Games
Quarterback Taylor Heinicke and long snapper Rick Lovato will play in All-Star games the next few Saturday’s. Heinicke will be one of three quarterbacks on the East Squad in the East-West Shrine game on Saturday, Jan. 17. Heinicke will be joined at quarterback with Duke’s Anthony Boone and Georgia’s Hutson Mason. The game will be played on 4 p.m. on the NFL Network.
Lovato will play in the College Gridiron Showcase on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 2:30 p.m. The contest will be played in Arlington, Texas, on the campus of the University of Texas at Arlington.
D.J. Morrell Signs Futures Contract With Buffalo Bills
Following the end of the NFL regular season, former Old Dominion offensive lineman D.J. Morrell signed a reserve/futures contract with the Buffalo Bills. A two-year starter for the Monarchs at both guard and tackle, Morrell spent the entire season on the Bills’ practice squad.
