Barry Marple Named ODU Men's Golf Assistant Coach

NORFOLK, VA—Old Dominion University Head Men’s Golf Coach Murray Rudisill announced today that  Barry Marple has been named graduate assistant for the men’s program.  Marple joins the Monarch family after five seasons as head golf coach at Landstown High School in Virginia Beach.

“We are pleased to have Barry working with the ODU golf team.  He brings a lot of experience with his background in playing, and teaching golf,” said Murray Rudisill.  “As the current golf coach at Landstown High School, he has shown that he can take a team and build it into a winner.  I will be a pleasure to partner with him at Old Dominion.”

Under his tenure, the Eagles winning percentage increased from 30% to over 90%, including five conference championship appearances, two regional championship appearances, and the school’s first conference championship. He is currently nominated for coach of the year by the Virginia Beach Coaches Association.

While coaching, he passed his PAT and entered the PGA as an apprentice instructor. He has also served as an assistant professional, a golf course superintendent, and spent eight years as a traffic reporter for two local radio stations.

Marple is a native of Virginia Beach and a graduate of Old Dominion University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He is working towards a Master of Science in Education.
