NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University women’s basketball team (8-6, 1-2) will travel to play against the Rice Owls (6-8, 1-2) on January 15 at the Tudor Fieldhouse in Huston, Texas at 7:00 p.m. EST. The game will mark each squad’s fourth Conference USA contest of the 2014-15 season.

Thursday’s contest will be video streamed live in HD through Monarch Media on ODUSports.com and will also air live on STAR 1310 AM Hampton Roads with Doug Ripley (Voice of the Lady Monarchs) on play-by-play. Doug’s live pregame show will begin at 6:30 p.m. EST from the Tudor Fieldhouse.

Thursday’s contest will be the second meeting between the Owls of Rice and the Old Dominion Lady Monarchs. The last encounter resulted in an Old Dominion victory of 85-49 at Tudor Fieldhouse on February 19, 2014.
ABOUT THE LADY MONARCHS
Old Dominion enters Thursday’s contest with an 8-6 overall record along with a 1-2 C-USA mark. The Lady Monarchs are currently ranked 77th in the nation and lead the conference for most blocked shots per game (4.3). Destinee Young is tied for 117th on the country’s blocked shots per game ladder, averaging 1.50 an outing, which also leads the conference.
The Lady Monarchs are allowing 63.1 points per game, while opponents shoot 40.1% from the floor against ODU. Old Dominion averages 15.5 forced turnovers a contest.
Jennie Simms has led the Lady Monarchs so far this season with 17.7 points and 6.4 rebounds. In the game against No. 25 Western Kentucky, she set a new career high of 26 points against WKU in her 33 minutes of play. Chelisa Painter is averaging 8.8 ppg to go along with 5.0 boards a contest. Tiffany Minor averages 7.8 points to compliment 5.5 rebounds per game.
Ashley-Betz White currently leads the squad in assists (44) and steals (22). Destinee Young is Old Dominion’s leading rebounder averaging 6.7 per contest, with 3 of her 94 total boards coming on the offensive end. Young is the Lady Monarchs leading shot blocker with 21 rejections so far this season.
ABOUT RICE
The Owls enter Thursday’s game with a 6-8 record (1-2 C-USA) for the 2014-15 season. Rice is coming into the game on a two game losing streak after falling to UTEP and North Texas in Conference USA play.
They look to their sophomore forward Jasmine Goodwine, who is averaging a team high 9.9 points-per-game and 4.7 rebounds-per-game and sophomore guard Maya Hawkins, who is averaging 9.0 points-per-game and 2.6 rebounds-per-game. Christal Porter, a senior forward, leads the team with 146 rebounds, with 96 defensive boards and averaging 10.4 a contest.

Thursday’s match-up is the first game in a two game road trip for the Lady Monarchs as they travel to face their fourth Conference USA opponent in Rice. The second game in the road trip is at North Texas on Saturday January 17 (5:00 p.m. EST).
