NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion freshman, Jared Swan, wrestled unattached for the Monarchs at the Franklin & Marshall Open and finished in third place in the 174-pound bracket.
Swan started out the day with a win by fall over Ekow Ashun in 2:41 in the championship round two. Zak DePasquale from UVA defeated Swan by a close 3-2 decision in round three to send Swan to the consolation bracket.
Swan then rattled off five straight wins to advance to the third-place match. He took down Jake Henson from UVA by a 4-1 decision and then defeated Quinton Hiles from Penn by fall at 4:49 in round five of the consolation bracket. In round six, Swan won by medical forfeit over Garrett Peppelman from UVA and then went on the defeat Andy Francos from Franklin & Marshall by a 9-8 decision. In the consolation semifinal bout, Dillon Gavlock from Lock Haven medically forfeited the match, sending Swan to the third-place match. Swan met DePasquale for the second time, and won by injury default (4:41).
Josh Markham (125), Emilio Saavedra (133, Unattached), Dylan Hunziker (141, Unattached), Nathan Coburn (141, Unattached), Josh Clark (149), Tanner Stephens (149, Unattached), Zach Wilson (149), McKinnnis Spadoni (157, Unattached), Kaleab Fetahi (174, Unattached), John D’Agostino (174, Unattached) and Zach Kelleher (197, Unattached) also competed for the Old Dominion Monarchs.
