Eckert, Vido, Mathews and Sa Lead the Way for Swimming and Diving at FAU Invitational

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Old Dominion University men’s swimming defeated Florida Atlantic and Marywood Saturday afternoon while the Lady Monarchs defeated Marywood and fell short to FAU in Boca Raton at the Florida Atlantic Invitational.

The event started with the Lady Monarchs finishing second in the 200 medley relay as Colleen VandePoel, Julia Vido, MacKenzie Payment and Juliana dos Santos finished in a time of 1:47.53.

Yesim Giresunlu took second in the 1000 free in a time of 10:21.98 while Raquel Couto finished third in a time of 10:51.72.  Giresunlu added another second place finish in the 500 free with a time of 5:08.15.  Savannah Bowers took third in a time of 5:13.63.

In the 200 free, Lucia Delcourt and Bowers finished second and third respectively, lining up just .45 seconds apart.

VandePoel grabbed a second place finish in the 100 backstroke while Vido was ODU’s first winner of the day, coming in with a time of 1:07.39 in the 100 breaststroke.

Vido added a second win for the Lady Monarchs with a time of 2:24.39 to win the 200 breaststroke while Giovanna Bodner took third in a time of 2:29.53.

Payment took second in the 100 fly in a time of 56.82 and Morgan Johnson took third with a time of 1:01.72.

Bowers added a third victory for the Lady Monarchs in the 400 IM with a time of 5:41.05 while Couto took second and Alicia Frey finished third.

In the final race of the day, the 400 free relay team of Vido, Payment, Johnson and Sofie Sjoberg finished second with a time of 3:36.86.

Eckert set a new school record and finished first on 1 meter with another zone qualifying score of 308.7.   She finished in third place on the 3 meter with a score of 259.15.

The men’s squad started with a win in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:34.44 as Donovan Pope, Jacob Zeidler, Reed Mathews and Graham Thatcher.

Bernardo Figuiredo added the first individual victory for the men in the 1000 free in a time of 9:39.56 while Mathews finished second.

Vitor Sa won again for the Monarchs with a time of 1:45.78 in the 200 free while Carter Watson and Marcus Quint finished in second and third, respectively.

Anton Mikaelsson continued the string of wins with a triumph in the 100 backstroke in a time of 53 seconds.

Eddie Hubert won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 57.73 while Zeidler and Philip Nordenberg ended in third.

Mathews took hold of the 200 fly in a time of 1:55.60 while Chris Prewitt took second in 1:57.98.

Sa won the 100 free in a time of 46.60 while Thatcher finished second in 47.15.

Mikaelsson added another victory, this time in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:54.74.

In the 500 free, Figuiredo won with a time of 4:44.04 while Mikaelsson finished second in 4:48.63.

Mathews added another victory in the 100 fly with a time of 51.61 while Francisco Byrne finished second in 51.75.

Chris Prewitt added the final individual race with a win in the 400 IM in a time of 4:11.70.

Freshman diver Cory Moreno won both the 1 and 3 meter dives.  He won the 1 meter with a score of 296.45 and the 3 meter with a personal best of 323.8 which is an NCAA Zones qualifying time.
