PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Old Dominion field hockey team fell to the Temple Owls, 2-1, in the BIG EAST Tournament semifinals on Friday afternoon in Providence, R.I.
Old Dominion lit up the scoreboard first at the 14:55 mark when freshman Victoria Rezette (Wezembeek-Oppem, Belgium) got a feed from junior Caitlin Walsh (Downingtown, Pa.) and deflected the ball past the outstretched goalie.
Temple countered ODU’s offensive attack, scoring two goals in a span of five minutes to take the lead by the 25:03 mark. Katie Foran and Amber Youtz each scored, while Paige Gross and Taylor Shronk dished out an assist.
With Old Dominion trailing 2-1 with just over six minutes to play in the game, the Lady Monarchs pulled their goalie, but could not capitalize with the extra player.
The Lady Monarchs finishes the season 11-8, while Temple advances to the championship game on a 14-6 overall record.
Junior Megan Hept (Chesapeake, Va.) played 63:54 in goal for the Lady Monarchs, finishing the game with three saves. Lizzy Millen played the entirety for Temple and made three stops. ODU outshot Temple, 10-7, and held an 8-2 edge in penalty corners.
The NCAA selection show will take place on Sunday at 10:00 p.m. and will be aired on the NCAA Field Hockey website.
