NORFOLK, Va. – The No. 17 Old Dominion Lady Monarchs had their five-game winning streak snapped on Sunday afternoon at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex as they fell to No. 1 North Carolina, 5-1.

ODU falls to 11-7 on the year, while UNC improves to 16-2 overall.

ODU took a 1-0 lead midway through the first half when junior Emily Harting (Litiz, Pa.) scored for just the second time this season. Junior Sarah Breen (Melbourne, Australia) worked her way into the circle and was awarded a penalty stroke that was taken by Harting. ODU held UNC scoreless in the first half, as the Lady Monarchs held onto the 1-0 lead at the half.

The Tar Heels came out strong in the second half, scoring all five of their goals in the final period. Four of those goals came in the span of seven minutes. Emma Bozek led the attacked with two goals and an assist, while Casey Di Nardo netted two tallies of her own.

Junior Megan Hept (Chesapeake, Va) suffered the loss in goal for ODU, finishing the game with one save. Shannon Johnson recorded the win for North Carolina, playing all 70:00 minutes in goal.

UNC outshot the Lady Monarchs, 9-4, and held a 2-0 lead in penalty corners.

Old Dominion will be back in action this weekend for the 2014 BIG EAST Tournament. The Lady Monarchs will face No. 16 Temple at 1:00 p.m. on Friday in Providence, R.I. Should ODU win, the Lady Monarchs will advance to the championship match on Sunday that is set for 1:00 p.m. Live stats will be available for each contest.
