NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University women’s soccer team (3-6-3, 2-1-1) will remain at home for a pair of Conference USA games this weekend. On Friday, Oct. 10 at 7:00 p.m., the Lady Monarchs will host Southern Miss (5-6-2, 0-2-2), then on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 1:00 p.m., ODU will battle LA Tech (9-4-1, 1-3-0). Both games will be played at the ODU Soccer Complex.

The Lady Monarchs have had their share of close games already this season, as 11 of their 12 matches have been decided by one goal or less. In fact, a total of seven matches this season have ended up going to overtime, while the three most recent games have all required extra time.

Last Friday, Old Dominion trailed Western Kentucky 1-0 in the 51st minute, when ODU’s goalkeeper was given a red card, forcing the Lady Monarchs to play with 10 players the rest of the match. Old Dominion rose to the occasion, scoring in the 58th minute to force overtime. In extra time, ODU’s Madison Hogan found the back of the net, lifting the Lady Monarchs to an improbable come from behind victory.

On Sunday, Old Dominion and Marshall played to a 1-1 tie after 110 minutes of soccer. For the weekend, Devin Dougherty was credited with the game-winning assist on Friday and Lady Monarchs’ only goal on Sunday.

For the season, Old Dominion is attempting 12.7 shots per game, while allowing 1.67 goals per contest. Senior co-captain Jessie Klamut leads ODU in shots (39), points (10), goals (4) and assists (2). Madison Hogan has accumulated nine points off four goals and an assist so far this season. Going into this weekend’s competitions, the Lady Monarchs sit in a tie for third with UAB in Conference USA with a 2-1-1 mark.

Southern Miss enters Friday’s contest with a 5-6-2 overall record, while going 0-2-2 in conference play. The Golden Eagles have compiled a 4-1-2 record while playing on their own pitch, but are 1-5-0 away from home. USM has two players that lead the team with 8 points in Karen Torres (4 goals) and Breann Hedin (two goals and four assists). Southern Miss currently rests in 14th in the C-USA standings going into the showdown with Old Dominion.

LA Tech enters this weekend’s competitions with a 9-4-1 overall record; however, the Lady Techsters are 1-3 against conference foes. LA Tech is 6-1-0 at home and 2-3-1 on the road so far this year. They attempt 18 shots per game while scoring 3.29 goals per contest. For the season, the Lady Techsters have taken 80 corners compared to their opponents 48. LA Tech entails three players who each have 15 or more points already this year. Kathryn Sloan leads the way with 22 points with eight goals and six assists. Taylor Dennis has tallied 17 points on eight goals, while Brittany Beddow has compiled 15 points off five goals and five assists. Louisiana Tech heads into the weekend in 12th place in Conference USA.
