Monarchs At Marshall Wednesday

NORFOLK, VA—The ODU Soccer Monarchs (4-3-1/0-0-1) hit the road again in C-USA to take on the Thundering Herd of Marshall Wednesday night at Hoops Family Field at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex.

The Monarchs tied Kentucky in the league opener, 1-1 on a second half goal by Cole Stringer. Goalkeeper Alex Tiesenhausen had seven saves on the night for the Monarchs. He ranks first in C-USA in saves with 42 and third in the league in goals against average at 0.72. As a team, ODU ranks second in C-USA in goals allowed with just six. Christian Schroeer is 10th in the league with two saves.

Head coach Alan Dawson is now: 197-107-32 at ODU and 326-137-92 overall. He entered the season as the nation’s 13th winningest active collegiate coach.

The Series: ODU leads, 2-0.  The Monarchs beat Marshall, 3-0 in 1983 and 3-0 last season.

About Marshall: (2-5-2/1-1) - After a two-game road winning streak, with wins over Evansville and South Carolina, the Herd lost the next two games to Saint Francis and FAU. Daniel Jodah leads the team with four goals on the season. Marshall is 0-3-2 at home thus far this season.

NEXT UP FOR ODU: The Monarchs return home to play Florida Atlantic, Saturday evening at 7 p.m. at the ODU Soccer Complex.

ODU HOSTS C-USA TOURNAMENT: Old Dominion will host the top seven finishers in the regular season standings for 2014 C-USA Men’s Soccer Championship, Nov. 12-16 at the Old Dominion Soccer Complex in Norfolk, Virginia. Tickets for the tournament are: $20 for adult, and $ 10 for youth. Single game tickets are: $10 for adults, $5 for youth, and $3 for groups of 10 or more. Admission is free for all C-USA students with a valid school ID.
