Every Friday, ODUSports.com will do a Q&A with a member of the ODU Football team. Today's Q&A is with redshirt junior, Mike Lennox.
Q: Why did you choose Old Dominion?
A: In high school, I played baseball as well. My junior year I decided I wanted to play football in college, and didn’t have a senior season due to a broken collarbone. ODU was one of the schools that actually gave me a chance and I wanted to play at the best school I could.
Q: You were a walk-on to the team. What was that like?
A: It was a preferred walk-on spot. I had to be invited to come here. There were a few guys that came in with me and we just had to work hard and earn our spot.
Q: You earned your scholarship this year, were you excited to receive that news?
A: Yeah, it came by surprise. There are a few of us on the team that are walk-ons and we got notified the same day.
Q: How long have you been playing football?
A: I don’t know what age I started but around the eighth grade was the first year I tried and I wasn’t even going to play my freshman year in high school but some of my friends convinced me to play.
Q: Have you always played linebacker?
A: I have always played linebacker, but in high school I played both sides of the ball. I played fullback and linebacker.
Q: If you could have a superpower what would you choose and why?
A: Maybe the ability to cure sicknesses, because there are so many people who are unfortunate and born with unfortunate diseases that affect them for life. I would like to be able to help eliminate those illnesses.
Q: What has been your favorite football moment, high school or college?
A: I would say all of the games that came down to the fourth quarter where we came out with the win. The Rice game and both JMU games, when we won the Conference.
Q: Do you have any hidden talents?
A: I’m a nasty horseshoe player.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: Probably steak.
Q: Who is your favorite artist?
A: The Goo Goo Dolls.
Q: Who are your favorite NFL, NBA and MLB teams and why?
A: I would say I don’t really follow the NBA. Baseball, I follow the Nationals because they are the home team; I am from Northern Virginia. Then the same for football, me and my family are big Redskins fans. My uncle was a season ticket holder, so I follow them.
