NORFOLK, Va. – In the regular season finale, the Old Dominion women’s soccer team (4-9-5, 3-4-3) played UTEP (12-5-3, 6-2-2) to 0-0 tie at the ODU Soccer Complex. Thursday night’s match also marked Senior Night for ODU’s Alexis Thomas, Taylor Smith and Jessie Klamut.

The Lady Monarchs had their best opportunity to score in the 40th minute when Melanie Oakes played an air pass from left to right which found Alexis Thomas, who drilled a shot that UTEP keeper, Sarah Dilling would make a save on to keep the contest scoreless after the first 45 minutes of action.

At the half, the Miners led the shot count 7-1 and corner kick tally 4-0.

Old Dominion picked up the pace in the second half, attempting eight shots to the Miners’ six shots; however, after 90 minutes, neither team was able to find the back of the net. The Lady Monarchs took six second half corners, while UTEP was held to two. 

The Lady Monarchs continued to apply pressure and attack UTEP in overtime, as ODU fired off two shots in the first extra time session, while the Miners attempted zero. In the second overtime, Old Dominion managed to take three shots to the Miners’ two, while each team took one corner, respectively.

For the match, Old Dominion’s true freshman goalkeeper tallied four saves while compiling a clean-sheet and UTEP GK Sarah Dilling made six saves on Thursday night.

UTEP’s Angela Cutaia took a game-high nine shots, while Klamut led ODU with three.

For the match, the corner kick count was even at seven apiece.

The Miners are currently in third place in Conference USA standings. Old Dominion ended the night in ninth place, as the C-USA Tournament takes the top eight out of 14 teams to compete next week in Charlotte, N.C. for the conference crown.
