NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University women’s lacrosse team has announced their schedule for the upcoming 2015 season.

Beginning its inaugural season in the Atlantic Sun Conference, the Old Dominion lacrosse team will look to establish itself as one of the top teams in the league. The Lady Monarchs join a conference that hosts Jacksonville, Furman, Stetson, Detroit Mercy, Kennesaw State, Mercer and Howard. In its two short years as a NCAA conference, the A-Sun has seen Jacksonville crowned conference champions twice and make it to the NCAA tournament with the automatic bid.

Old Dominion’s schedule features seven teams that made it to their respective conference post-season play a season ago. Out of those seven teams, four made it to the championship match.

The Lady Monarch’s lacrosse team will kick off their 2015 regular season schedule on the road at Gardner Webb on February 14 with a 1:00 p.m. start time. They return home for two games on February 18 versus Longwood and February 20 against Campbell. February is wrapped up on the road as the Lady Monarchs travel to play Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.

March is a busy month for the women’s lacrosse team as they take on eight teams over the course of the month. They start off at home when they play Davidson at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex on March 1.

On March 4 they travel up the road to play at Richmond, before they leave for their spring break trip to California, where they will play California Berkley on March 8 and UC Davis on March 10.

The Lady Monarch’s return to the Hill on March 15 when they take on the Tribe of William and Mary for the first of four-straight home games. On March 21 American University makes a stop at the L.R. Hill for a game against the Lady Monarch’s.

Jacksonville and Stetson, two conference opponents, wrap up the month of March on March 27 and 29, respectively.

The remainder of the Lady Monarch’s schedule consists of conference match-ups throughout the month of April. The team starts April off on a three-game away schedule, as they travel to Mercer on April 2, Kennesaw State on April 4 and Furman University on April 11.

The Lady Monarch’s return home for their last regular season game at home on April 18 when they compete against Detroit Mercy. On April 25, the Lady Monarchs wrap up their regular season schedule when they visit Howard University.

The Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament follows just a few days after the Lady Monarch’s last regular season game. Tournament play is scheduled to start on April 30 with the championship game to be held on May 3.

The ODU team graduated six seniors, as the Lady Monarchs’ team will feature a balanced 25-woman roster comprised of six seniors, seven juniors, eight sophomores and four first-years. ODU returns four of the top-5 leading scorers from a year ago: seniors Jessica Liberty (24g, 12a, 36pts), Christina Rea (29g, 3a, 32pts) and Ashmore Standing (23g, 4a, 27pts), along with sophomore Connor Carson (13g, 12a, 25pts). The team will also return sophomore Maggi Buckley, team leader in groundballs (32), who played the majority of time in goal for the Lady Monarchs. She notched a 102 saves last season.
