Old Dominion’s sailing was back on the water this past weekend at three events. The Monarchs competed in the Kings Point Dinghy Open in Kings Point, N.Y., Webb Regatta at Christopher Newport, and the Hoyt Trophy at Brown University. They finished the weekend second, third and 11th, respectively.
At the Kings Point Dinghy Open the Monarchs finished the event in second place behind St. Mary’s College of Maryland. Jeremy Herrin and Cady Johnson sailed in the Division A boats and finished sixth with four top-five finishes out of 12 heats, including a first place finish in the 10th race. Lee Dumaliang and Travis Carlisle finished third in the Division B boats. They concluded the weekend with 10 top-five finishes out of 12 heats.
In the Webb Regatta hosted at Christopher Newport, the Monarchs took third of eight teams for the weekend’s efforts. Nathan Fields and Anne Van Der Gangen finished third in the Division A boats which included three first place finishes. Alec Chicoine and Molly Sternberg also finished third in the Division B boats and had two first-place finishes. Both teams placed in the top-five in all 12 heats at the Webb Regatta.
The Monarchs finished 11th at the Hoyt Trophy Regatta hosted by Brown University in Providence, Rhodes Island. In the Division A boats, Esteban Forrer, Grace Mason and Gabriel Smith finished eighth of 18 teams, including one top-three finishes in 10 heats. In Division B, Daniel Lochner and Colin Voigt finished in 14th with two top-fives finishes.
The Monarchs return to action this weekend, Nov. 1-2, at the SUNY Maritime College for the War Memorial Regatta in New York.
