The Old Dominion sailing team competed in three events this weekend, the Luce Regatta, the Navy Fall Regatta and the 35th Yale Women’s Intersectional. The Monarchs finished first, 13th and 15th, respectively.
ODU sailing finished first out of 15 teams this weekend at the Luce Regatta in Kings Point, N.Y. In the Division A boat, Daniel Lochner, Joseph David, and Carter Little finished fourth with six top-three finishes out of 10 races. Andrew Baird and Travis Carlisle finished first in the Division B boat, including eight top-three finishes. The Monarchs, 63 points, just beat out the Mariners, 67 points, of Kings Point by four points and the Wahoos of UVA by 11 with 74 points.
At the Navy Fall Regatta, the Monarchs came in 13th overall. In Division A, Esteban Forrer, Grace Mason and Gabriel Smith finished 12th with two top-three finishes in 15 races. Augie Dale, Kaylie Gallagher and Jason Bankert finished 10th in the Division B boats, including two top-three finishes. Jeremy Herrin finished 18th in the Division C single-handed boats and Nathan Fields finished seventh in the Division D single-handed boats. Fields finished the regatta with two top-three finishes.
The Monarchs finished 15th at the 35th Yale Women’s Intersectional regatta. Andrea Luna, Katelyn Talley and Colin Voigt tied for eighth with the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in the Division A boats. In the Division B rotation; Sarah Streater and Cady Johnson finished 17th, beating out Boston University. Luna, Talley and Voigt had two top-five finishes, while Streater and Johnson had one.
The Monarchs are back in action next weekend, October 25-26, when they travel to Kings Point, N.Y. for the King’s Point Dinghy Open, the MAISA Match Race Championships also at Kings Point, and to Providence, R.I. for the Hoyt Trophy.
