CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – No. 30 Carlos Lopez Villa advanced to the Quarterfinals of the 2014 USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional Championships for the second consecutive year. This year’s regional tournament is hosted by the University of Virginia at the Sheridan Snyder Tennis Center.
In the Round of 32, No. 30 Lopez Villa took down Michael Voscek from VCU in a tight three setter (4-6, 6-3, 6-4). Lopez Villa then faced Tomas Hanzlik of Penn State, in a match that Old Dominion’s right-handed senior won 6-3,6-2. Lopez Villa is slated to face Thai Kwiatkowski of Virginia tomorrow.
Old Dominion’s Theophile Lanthiez also advanced to the Round of 16, where he fell to Virginia Tech’s No. 60 nationally ranked Andreas Bjerrehus (6-3, 6-0).
Singles and doubles champions earn a spot at the ITA National Indoor Championships, which will be played at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
