CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team (4-7-3, 3-2-1) will travel to Charlotte (7-5-1, 4-2-0) for a Saturday showdown at 5:00 p.m. at Transamerica Field.
The Lady Monarchs will enter Saturday’s match in a three-way tie for fourth place in the Conference USA standings, while the 49ers are alone in second place. In conference play, Charlotte is 3-1 while protecting their home turf, while Old Dominion is 1-1 on the road.
Conference USA will take the eight (out of 14) teams with the best conference record to compete in the 2014 C-USA Women’s Soccer Tournament.
ODU had its unbeaten run extended to four matches with the 1-0 victory over Southern Miss on Oct. 10, before falling to LA Tech on Oct. 12. 12 of Old Dominion’s 14 matches have been decided by one goal or less, while exactly seven games have entailed overtime. In fact, three of the Lady Monarchs last five matches have required extra time.
Senior co-captain, Jessie Klamut leads Old Dominion with 12 points off five goals, two of which were game-winners. Klamut has also tallied two assists this season. Sophomore forward Madison Hogan is right behind Klamut in points with 10, scoring four goals (1 GW) and two assists.
Charlotte notched consecutive wins to push its winning streak to three games. The 49ers have won six of their last eight matches and are coming off wins against LA Tech (3-0) and Southern Miss (2-1).
Charlotte has a RPI of 89 compared to Old Dominion’s 137. The 49ers are led by freshman forward Martha Thomas, who has compiled 21 points by netting eight goals and dishing out five assists.
