No. 19 Lady Monarchs Fall to No. 6 Connecticut, 4-0

STORRS, Conn. – The 19th-ranked Old Dominion field hockey team suffered a 4-0 loss at the hands of No. 6 Connecticut on Friday night at the George J. Sherman Family-Sports Complex.

The Lady Monarchs fall to 6-6 on the year and 1-1 in the BIG EAST, while the Huskies improved to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

After battling to a scoreless 24 minutes, the Huskies broke the drought with a goal by Anna Middendorf at the 24:10 mark. Connecticut added the insurance goal just 6:10 later off another goal from Middendorf to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. ODU registered three shots, including two off of penalty corners, but could not capitalize.

The Huskies continued to attacked at the start of the second half, adding their third goal of the match by Charlotte Townsend 2:33 into the final period to take a 3-0 lead over the Lady Monarchs. UConn continued to increase its lead over ODU, tacking on another tally at the 46:46 mark to reach the final 4-0 score.

Junior Megan Hept (Chesapeake, Va.) played the entirety in goal for the Lady Monarchs, finishing the match with one save. Nina Klein totaled one stop on the other end for the Huskies.

Connecticut outshot Old Dominion 9-5 and held a 5-4 advantage in penalty corners.

The Lady Monarchs will be back in action when they take on the Quinnipiac Bobcats in Hamden, Conn. on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Watch the live feed or keep up with live stats.
