PHILADELPHIA, Penn. – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team will begin a six game road swing when they take on the University of Pennsylvania Quakers at Rhodes Field on Sunday, Sept. 7, at 2:00 p.m.

In that last three matches, the Lady Monarchs have gone into overtime, coming away with two draws and a loss. In all four games of ODU’s 2014 season, they have allowed exactly one goal. Both of Old Dominion’s sophomore keepers, which have played during the 2014 season have a less than 1.0 goals against average: Meredith Lenox (0.82) and Erin Kinz (0.93). The feisty ODU team has yet to allow a first half goal all season.

The Lady Monarchs have outshot their opponents this year, 53-47, with senior co-captain Jessie Klamut leading the way, as she has fired off a total of 18 shots, while scoring two goals and leading the team with four points.

The Series with Penn: 1-1-1
ODU and Penn met last year and finished in a 2-2 tie in Norfolk, Va. In that match, the Lady Monarchs scored the first two goals – which happened to be the first two goals Penn had allowed in the season, in its sixth match -- before the Quakers scored the last two to salvage the draw. The previous two meetings came in 1995 (a 2-1 Penn win in Philly) and 1996 (a 3-2 ODU win in Williamsburg, Va.).

Meet the Penn Quakers (0-0-0)
*The Quakers play Mount Saint Mary’s on Friday night, in what will be the team’s opening game of the 2014 regular season.

*Penn went 12-1-4 last season, and took second place in the Ivy League at 5-1-1, behind only Harvard (7-0-0).

*Penn shut out 12 of its 17 opponents last season, a .706 percentage that was fourth nationally; three years ago, the Quakers led the nation in shutout percentage.

*Penn allowed just eight goals last season, good for a 0.44 goals-against average that was fifth nationally.

*Junior defender Caroline Dwyer was a third-team All-America last year, just the second Penn player to be so honored by the NSCAA (Katy Cross was a second-team All-America in 2001).

*Nesmith is the team’s leading returning scorer; she had four goals and an assist for nine points.

Life on the Road
After Penn, the Lady Monarchs will travel to Radford, Virginia, Richmond, FIU and FAU to close out their six game road trip.
