NORFOLK, Va. – No. 19 Old Dominion (5-4) defeated James Madison (6-2) by a 4-0 final score Sunday afternoon at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex. The ODU field hockey team won their fourth-consecutive game and recorded their second shutout of the season.

Freshman forward Victoria Rezette (Wezembeek-Oppem, Belgium) got the Lady Monarchs on the board first with her second goal of the season at the 11:47 mark. Senior forward Rosario Villagra (Salta, Argentina) found the open Rezette from the top of the circle to record the assist. The Lady Monarchs’ defense held JMU to just two shots in the first half as they went into the locker room with a 1-0 halftime advantage.

ODU came into the second half on fire scoring three goals on 12 shots. Junior midfielder Sarah Breen (Melbourne, Australia) started the scoring at the 44:11 mark when she found the rebound off her initial shot that was blocked and sent the ball into the right side of the cage.

Junior defender Caitlin Walsh (Downingtown, Pa.) followed Breen’s goal with her first goal of the year. Walsh controlled a pass by Villagra at the 57:12 mark to give the Lady Monarchs a 3-0 lead. Breen then scored her second tally of the game off of a penalty corner set up by Villagra and senior midfielder Kelsey Smither (Suffolk, Va.)

Junior Megan Hept (Chesapeake, Va.) recorded her second shutout of the year, making one save during the game. Hannah George suffered the loss for the Dukes and finished the game with five saves.
