CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA- Old Dominion University senior Carlos Lopez Villa (Madrid, Spain) placed fourth in singles and he teamed with freshman Adam Moundir (Luzern, Switzerland) to take fifth place in doubles at the 2014 University of Virginia Tennis Invitational.
Lopez Villa opened the blue singles bracket with a 6-2,6-4 win over Gian Issa of MTSU, then beat Rogerio Ribeiro of ETSU, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 before having to retire in the third set of his match against Virginia’s Thai-son Kwiatkowski, 7-5,3-6,5-4 (retired).
The doubles team of Lopez Villa/Moundir lost their opening Orange doubles bracket match to the team of Wagner and Simich of Louisville, 8-3, then rebounded to beat team of Steryous-Browne of Furman, 8-2 and Kapukrian-Zelekov of George Washington, 8-5 for fifth place.
The Monarchs compete in the Elon Invitation this weekend.
