IRVING, Texas – Old Dominion University senior linebacker D.J. Simon was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, C-USA announced on Monday.
Simon had a career-high 11 tackles and half a tackle for loss in ODU’s first home FBS game and win. The three points allowed was a record low while the defense gave up 215 yards, the fourth fewest in school history.
For the season, Simon is tied for the team-lead with 24 tackles, second on the squad with three tackles for loss and one sack.
Simon is the first football player in ODU history to earn a C-USA Player of the Week honor.
The Monarchs travel to Rice on Saturday, Sept. 20 for the first Conference USA game in school history.
