CHARLOTESVILLE, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team (1-3-2) has a showdown with the No. 2 ranked Virginia Cavaliers (7-0-0) Wed., Sept. 17, at Klöckner Stadium with kickoff set to start at 7:00 p.m.

For the Lady Monarchs, this will be their third (of six) consecutive road games, so far on the trip ODU has split the first two games. Most recently against Radford, a Jessie Klamut goal in the 85th minute rewarded ODU with a 1-0 win over the Highlanders, its first win of the 2014 season and head coach Angie Hind with her first victory since taking over for the Lady Monarchs. ODU true freshman goalkeeper, Samantha Frowen, picked up her first win of her young collegiate career making four saves in 45 minutes of work.

ODU has still yet to allow a first half goal this season. Old Dominion is currently out-shooting their opponents by a slim margin for the season, 78-75, which is good for 13 shots per game on average. Klamut leads the Lady Monarchs in points (6), goals (3) and shot attempts (24).

UVA opened the season ranked No. 3 in the Soccer America and NSCAA polls, their highest preseason ranking since 1992, when they opened the year at No. 2. Virginia returns five starters from last year's College Cup squad, including All-Americans Morgan Brian (St. Simons Island, Ga.), Danielle Colaprico (Freehold, N.J.) and Makenzy Doniak (Chino Hills, Calif.). All three are on the preseason watch list for the MAC Hermann Trophy.

To this point, UVA is a perfect 5-0 at home this season (average attendance of 1,897 per game) while outscoring their opponents 3.29 to 0.43 on average. The Cavaliers attempt nearly 24 shots per game, while their opponents only manage a mere 4.4. For the season, Virginia has taken 60 corners, while their opponents have only attempted 11 total.

Tickets for the game are $7 for adult general admission and $5 for youth, senior and faculty/staff general admission. Group tickets (20 or more) are $4. Free parking is available in the University Hall lots.
