RADFORD, Va. - The Old Dominion University women’s soccer team (0-3-2) will take on Radford (0-2-1) Sunday, Sept. 14, at Dedmon Center Field at 1:00 p.m. The Lady Monarchs still have yet to allow a first half goal this season and have played in four consecutive matches which went into overtime.
After scoring the first two goals of the match against UPenn, ODU allowed three unanswered goals as the third occurred with just 12 seconds remaining in the first overtime to lift the Quakers over the Lady Monarchs, 3-2.
Old Dominion has been led by senior co-captain Jessie Klamut thus far, who has netted two goals for a team-leading four points, while also leading the team in shots with 18. Against UPenn, it was the boot of two second-year players who found the onion-bag in Grace Haverly and Madison Hogan. Both Melanie Oakes and Jordan Jones have each added one assist this year, respectively.
For the season, ODU has outshot their opponents 63-61, good for a 12.6 shots per game average.
THE LAST TIME THESE TWO TEAMS MET
The last time Old Dominion and Radford met on the pitch was just a season ago on the 1st of September, when the Highlanders edged the Lady Monarchs 1-0 in overtime.
MEET RADFORD
After a 15-win campaign and second straight Big South regular season championship last season, Radford entered the 2014 season with a new look. Nine RU seniors graduated, while nine newcomers were added. Under the guidance of 19-year head coach Ben Sohrabi (2013 Big South Coach of the Year), RU welcomes back four starters from last year's squad.
The Highlanders enter their weekend contests with a 0-2-1 overall record. Goalkeeper Kaite McCormick had a career-high 13 saves in the 1-1 tie against Howard last match. McCormick is averaging allowing one goal per game entering the weekend. Radord’s top point scorer is freshman Jordan Lundin who has already scored two goals. Lundin also leads the team in shots with five.
