NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team will take the pitch at the ODU Soccer Complex this Fri. Aug. 29 against VCU at 7:00 p.m. The first 200 ODU students in attendance on Friday night will receive a slice of pizza courtesy of Aramark.
ODU head coach Angie Hind discussed the upcoming match, “We are looking forward to the opportunity to play at home again on Friday evening. The crowd and the atmosphere they created last week was fantastic and so I’m hopeful that they will come out and get behind us again for what I believe will be an exciting game against local rival, VCU. Having played VCU this past spring we are aware of the quality that they possess as a team; however, we are undoubtedly better for having two competitive games in our legs this past weekend and I know we have grown as a team since our last meeting. We look forward to another opportunity to put ourselves up against a strong opponent.”
The Lady Monarchs (0-2-0) are coming off two heartbreaking 1-0 losses against quality opponents in Liberty and George Washington. The GW match went scoreless into overtime, before the Colonials managed to find the back of the net.
In both games of opening week, ODU’s Erin Kinz protected the net for the Lady Monarchs, giving up less than a goal a game (0.99) while accumulating four total saves.
In Old Dominion’s 2014 season opener, a total of 624 fans were on hand for the action, which was the most for a home Lady Monarchs game since Sept. 17, 2010, when ODU took on NC State.
