NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University women’s soccer team took part in a Teambuilding and Leadership Day, which consisted of activities, obstacles and challenges with the United States Marine Corps at Camp Allen in Norfolk, Va.
The Lady Monarchs morning challenges included physical obstacles that the players had to try to overcome and ultimately succeed at, such as: tire flips, squad push-ups and recovering casualty scenarios. Within smaller teams, the student-athletes had to work together to try and find the best plan to allow them to become successful in each specific challenge and then rely on the physical strength and stamina as a group to overcome and succeed at the challenge.
ODU’s afternoon was spent with Marine Captains and Sergeants learning about the leadership philosophies of the Marine Corps and how that can relate into what can be achieved as a college soccer team.
Old Dominion head coach Angie Hind explained, “This was a really great day which allowed us to learn about ourselves and the strengths we have as individuals and how they can contribute to the overall power we possess as a team.”
The Lady Monarchs will open their 2014 regular season at home this Fri. Aug. 22, against the Liberty Flames at 7:00 p.m.
