CONWAY, SC – The ODU Soccer Monarchs ranked 25th in the NSCAA pre-season poll played to a 1-1 tie with 17th-ranked Coastal Carolina in an exhibition match Wednesday afternoon at the CCU Soccer Stadium.
ODU freshman Stefano Barahona (Pompton Lakes, NJ.) broke the scoreless draw in the 52nd minute of play with a shot from the top of the box that snuck inside the far post, giving the Monarchs the 1-0 advantage. However, 25 seconds later Coastal’s Sergio Camargo equalized the score with a shot in traffic to make it 1-1.
The 90-minute match saw both team produce several scoring opportunities, while also utilizing the opportunity to play nearly every active player on their respective rosters.
Coastal outshot ODU, 15-7 overall and 8-4 in shots on goal. The Chants also earned four corners to ODU’s two.
The Monarchs sophomore keeper Alex Tiesenhausen (Graz, Austria) recorded seven saves in his 90 minutes of play, while Coastal’s Mark Petrus and Devin Cook-Perales each notched two stops.
The Monarchs open their regular season on Aug. 29th in Charlottesville against No. 3 Virginia at 8 p.m.
