BALTIMORE, Md. – A Jessie Klamut goal with 2:31 remaining in a 10-minute extra period lifted the Lady Monarchs past UMBC by a score of 1-0 on Thursday afternoon at Retriever Soccer Park in Old Dominion’s lone exhibition match for the 2014 season.
After 90 minutes of scoreless regulation play, the game went into a 10-minute golden goal extra time period, where the right-footed senior captain from Virginia Beach, Va. (Cox High School) found the back of the net for the game winner. Last season, Klamut led the Lady Monarchs in goals with four, as well as shot attempts with 51.
The Retrievers are coming off an historic 2013 season in which they completed the biggest turnaround in league history by winning a share of the America East regular-season title and snagging its first-ever conference tournament crown. UMBC posted a 10-2 record at home and a 13-6-2 overall record a season ago.
Just yesterday, UMBC was picked to repeat as champions of the America East by conference officials and coaches.
