NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University Sailing announced its 2014 fall schedule on Tuesday.
"I am excited about our schedule this year. It will put us against toughest competition in the country while also providing development opportunities for our young team," ODU Head Coach Mitch Brindley said.
The Sailing team starts their season off September 13-14 at the Navy Radial Women’s and Navy Laser regattas and hosts the Riley Cup. The team then competes in three regattas over the weekend of September 20-21. Those regattas include the SUNY Fall Open and the Nevins Trophy in New York and the Edward Teach Memorial regatta at Hampton. They conclude September at the Faye Bennet/MAISA Women’s Singles regatta in Maryland on September 27-28. The squad will also compete in the MAISA Laser Last Chance regatta in New York and at the Saint Mary’s Fall regatta.
The Monarchs travel to Maryland for the MAISA Fall Women’s regatta on October 4-5. They also compete at St. Mary’s for the Senator’s Cup/First War Qualifier and in Connecticut for the Danmark Trophy. On October 11-12, the team divides to cover the Van Duyne/MAISA Men’s Singles and the Hobart/WS Fall regattas in New York. The same weekend they go to Maryland for the Navy Fall Women’s regatta. On October 18-19, the team is scheduled to compete at the Yale Women’s regatta, the Navy Fall regatta in Maryland, and the Henry Luce/Second War Qualifier at KP. Rounding out the month of October, the team competes in the MAISA Match Race Championships and the KP Dingy Open in New York, as well as at Brown University, for the Hoyt Trophy.
To start off November, the team competes in New York at the War Memorial Conference Championships on November 1-2. On November 7-8, the team heads to Washington to compete in the ICSA Singlehanded National Championships, as well as New York for the Hap Moore Team Race. On November 15-16, the women will participate in the Atlantic Coast Women’s Open in New Hampshire while the remaining team members participate in the Atlantic Coast Coed’s Open. Finishing up November and 2014, the team will partake in the ICSA Match Race National Championships the weekend of November 21-23.
In concluding their fall schedule, the sailing team will compete at the Rose Bowl Regatta in Long Beach California just after the New Year on January 2-4.
