Throughout fall camp ODUSports.com will do Q&A's with members of the Monarchs. Today's chat is with freshman running back, Ray Lawry.
Q: Ray, you had some pretty outstanding performances in high school. What would you say is your favorite highlight from your high school years?
A: The state championship game against Timber Creek High School. I took back a 95-yard kick return. They had just scored and we came right back out and scored a touchdown.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go?
A: I would have to say that I would go to the Bahamas. I think that would be pretty fun. I’ve seen pictures and it looks really nice.
Q: If you could do anything in the world without fear of failure what would you do?
A: Jump out of an airplane.
Q: What is your favorite book?
A: I actually like Dan Gutman. He was my favorite author growing up as a kid and he wrote books like ‘Jackie and Me’.
Q: Why Old Dominion?
A: Old Dominion, I saw they had something special. It is a young team. We have about 40 players coming in and I know that they are going to do something big in the future and I want to be a part of it.
Q: What are some things you do in your pregame ritual?
A: I like to listen to music, like Lil Wayne.
Q: Who is your favorite actor/actress and what movie of theirs is you favorite?
A: My favorite actor is Adam Sandler and my favorite movie of his is ‘Longest Yard’.
Q: What are you most looking forward to on gameday?
A: I am looking forward to getting a win, a win with my teammates.
Q: Growing up, did you have interest in sports other than football?
A: Basketball. I played basketball my whole life; it was actually my favorite sport up until my sophomore year in high school when I changed my focus to football.
Q: Have you decided on a major and if so in what do you plan to study?
A: I plan to study marketing or business management.
Q: What is your favorite drill so far in practices?
A: I would say the push drill; you push up on the bags to work on your pass blocking.
Q: Have you always played running back or have you moved around?
A: I have played running back my whole life, except when I was five I was on the offensive line.
Q: Do you play any instruments?
A: I took a piano class every year in high school, so I got pretty good at playing piano.
Q: If you could meet anyone from history, who would you like to talk to and why?
A: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. because without him things would be totally different right now. I probably wouldn’t be playing football if not for him.
Q: What are some of the challenges that you think you will face transitioning from high school to college?
A: The speed of the game and balancing football and your academics at the same time. As of right now that’s pretty hard, a lot different than high school.
