NORFOLK, Va. – A trio of Old Dominion University football seniors were named to the Athlon Sports preseason All-Conference USA squad, the publication announced.
Quarterback Taylor Heinicke was named to the second-team while center Josh Mann and wide receiver Larry Pinkard earned third-team honors.
Heinicke, the 2012 Walter Payton Award Winner, passed for 4,022 yards in 2013 completing 340-of-486 passes for 33 touchdowns. His 70 percent completion rate was a school record. He also rushed for 348 yards and five touchdowns.
Pinkard led ODU with career-highs in receptions, with 68, and receiving yards with 1,020. He also tied for a team-high nine touchdown catches.
A two-year starter at center, Mann started 10 games last year before missing the final two with an injury. Mann, along with Heinicke, were named team captains for the 2014 season.
This year will be the Monarchs’ first season playing a Conference USA schedule, opening at defending Champion Rice on Sept. 20. The C-USA home opener will be played on national TV, Friday, Sept. 26 against Middle Tennessee.
ODU will host Hampton in the season opener on Saturday, Aug. 30.
