NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University women’s soccer head coach Angie Hind announced the Lady Monarchs schedule for the upcoming 2014 season today, which includes six competitors that won 10 or more games in 2013, five opponents from the state of Virginia and 10 Conference USA foes.

“I am excited with the schedule we have for 2014,” exclaimed Hind. “We have some strong opponents out of conference that will provide some very competitive games for us and prepare us well for conference play. Personally, this will be my first experience of Conference-USA and while it brings some challenge with travel, I am excited for this program to begin to make our mark.“

The upcoming 2014 season will be the first year as head coach at Old Dominion for Angie Hind, who previously was an assistant national coach for the Scottish Football Association, as well as former head coach at Dartmouth College. In her time at Dartmouth College, she led the Big Green to a remarkable 54-38-8 overall record, an appearance in the 2005 NCAA Tournament and three seasons as conference runner-up.

The Lady Monarchs return 16 players from last year’s roster including their six leading point scorers from the 2013 season. ODU also adds six talented freshmen, which showcases two four-star recruits by TopDrawer.com.

The non-conference schedule is highlighted by a trip to UVA, a team that finished last season with a record of 24-1-1, while winning their first 20 games and making to the Final Four, where they lost against the eventual 2013 NCAA Champion UCLA in overtime.

After their sole scrimmage at UMBC on Aug. 14th, ODU will open their schedule at home against Liberty on Aug. 22nd. Besides the Wahoos, the Flames are the other team on the schedule that made the NCAA Tournament last year, as they finished their season with a 16-6-1 record. Liberty made it to the First Round of the NCAA Tournament in 2013, where they eventually suffered a loss against No. 1 ranked North Carolina.

The first away game for the Lady Monarchs will take place in Washington D.C., where they will face George Washington on Aug. 24th. Following the game against G.W., ODU will return home for a two-game home stand against in-state rival, VCU on Aug. 29th and then Campbell on Sept. 4th.

After a pair of home games, Old Dominion will begin a six game stretch on the road, including the marquee matchup against Virginia at Klöckner Stadium on Sept. 17th. UPenn, Richmond and Radford. The fifth and sixth games of ODU’s longest tenure away from home will take place in Florida to kick-off the C-USA season against FIU on Sept. 26th and FAU on Sept. 28th.

The Lady Monarchs return home to Norfolk in early October for four games, as they will take on Western Kentucky in their C-USA home opener on Oct. 3rd, while also playing host to Marshall on Oct. 5th, Southern Mississippi on Oct. 10th and Louisiana Tech on Oct. 12th.

In mid October, ODU will be back on the road for their last three games away from the ODU Soccer Complex. The trip will include games against the 2013 C-USA East Division regular season champion Charlotte on Oct. 18th, Rice on Oct. 24th and North Texas on Oct. 26th.

The Lady Monarchs will play at home for the last time in the 2014 regular season facing UTEP on Oct. 30th.
