Burney & Walker Named C-USA All-Conference

NORFOLK, VA-- Old Dominion University freshman outfielder Nick Walker (Virginia Beach, VA.) and senior firstbaseman Josiah Burney (Gloucester, VA.) have been selected to the 2014 Conference USA All-Conference squad, as the league's baseball awards were announced on Tuesday in Hattiesburg, MS, site of the 2014 Conference USA Baseball Championships. Walker was named first team All-Conference and All-Rookie, while Burney was named to the second team All-Conference squad.

Walker leads the Monarchs in hitting at .329 with four homers, 24 RBI and a team best 42 runs scored. He ranks fifth in C-USA in slugging at .482, third in on base percentage at .420. Walker also ranks third in the league with 71 total hits, fourth in runs scored and third in stolen bases with 14. Walker enters the tournament with a 22-game

on base streak and recently had a 20-game hitting streak.

Burney is hitting .303 with a team best six homers and 41 RBI. Burney ranks third in C-USA in slugging at .526, fourth in on base percentage at .414, fifth in RBI and homers. Burney has 12 multiple RBI games and 14 multiple hit games. During the season, Burney had three homers and 10 RBI in the three-game series at LA Tech which earned him C-USA Player of the Week honors.

In his first season in the league, FIU junior catcher Aramis Garcia was named Conference USA Player of the Year while UAB senior RHP Chase Mallard became the first Blazer to earn C-USA Pitcher of the Year honors.

FIU RHP Chris Mourelle was named Freshman of the Year, while Rice junior C John Clay Reeves gained Newcomer of the Year recognition. UAB head coach Brian Shoop was named the Keith LeClair Coach of the Year, while his aide, Josh Hopper became the inaugural winner of the Assistant Coach of the Year award.
