ODU vs. Georgetown Fri. in D.C. at Noon for Regular Season Finale

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Old Dominion University women’s tennis team will take the courts one last time for the 2014 regular season this Friday, April 11, against Georgetown in Washington D.C. at 12:00 p.m.

The Lady Monarchs
The Lady Monarchs are coming off a dominate win over Morgan State on Sunday, in which Old Dominion won every match to blank the Bears, 7-0. The team is 10-6 overall, and sport an 8-3 record at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.This win also came on a very emotional Senior Day, where seniors Nika Khmolovska and Melissa Esnal Olguin were honored for their four years of commitment to the team. The two seniors have accounted for 75 singles wins for the program over the last four years.

The Lady Monarchs are led by their No. 1 singles player, sophomore Nikol Hristova, who is 11-4 on the season and has won five matches in a row. Her doubles partner Olguin, is 9-4 on the season in singles, and together they are 9-2 for doubles. Hristova and Esnal Olguin have not dropped a match since March 9th, which was against No. 46 South Florida.

Freshman Ingrid Vojcinakova is 11-4 as well and has competed in the No. 2 singles spot steadily the whole season. Marijana Novakovic is also part of the Lady Monarchs’ youth movement. Also a freshman, Novakovic has been solid at the No. 3 position posting a record of 6-5 in that spot. Vojcinakova and Novakovic also sport an 8-4 record in doubles.

Nika Khmolovska has won three of her last four to improve to 8-6 on the season.

The Hoyas
The Georgetown Hoyas come into Friday’s match with an overall record of 8-9. They are 3-3 at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex. The Hoyas come into the match 0-2 versus ranked opponents including a 7-0 loss to No. 31 DePaul and a 5-2 defeat at the hands of No. 51 Boston College. Georgetown got off to a slow start this season, but has caught fire as of late, winning seven of their last nine games. Freshman Victorie Saperstein comes into the match with a 9-5 overall record has won four of her last 5 matches including three wins in a row.
