NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University football held its second open scrimmage of the spring on Saturday at Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium.
The practice was the 12th of the spring for the Monarchs which gives ODU three practices left this spring.
The scrimmage opened with a 20-yard pass from Taylor Heinicke to Zach Pascal. The next play Reggie Owens intercepted a deep ball down the left sideline for a turnover for the defense.
Later in the scrimmage Heinicke connected with Melvin Vaughn for a 50-yard catch and run touchdown while Colin McElroy hit Jusse Yorke for a 20-yard touchdown pass.
The scrimmage featured several different periods that changed down and distance and the yardline, as well as two-minute drill segments.
During a red zone drill, Heinicke fired touchdown passes to Larry Pinkard and Yorke while David Washington added a six-yard touchdown run.
The defense also came up with several key plays including sacks by Andrew Everett Rashaad Coward and pass breakups from Chris Smith and Sandy Chapman. Rob Thompson ended the scrimmage for the defense with an interception.
