NORFOLK, VA— Old Dominion University men’s soccer player Tim Hopkinson (Nottingham, England) has been named recipient of the Tom Scott award by the Norfolk Sports Club, as ODU’s top senior athlete. He will be presented the award Monday, April 21st at the Sports Club dinner beginning at 5 p.m. at the Holiday Inn on 5655 Greenwich Road in Virginia Beach.
The award is given in honor of Tom Scott, who coached four sports and served as athletic director during the first 11 years after ODU was founded as the Norfolk Division of the College of William and Mary.
Hopkinson is a second team All-American by the NSCAA and College Soccer News and was a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy (National Player of the Year), and won the fan poll. He was named first team NSCAA All-South Region, Conference USA’s Offensive Player of the Year, and first team All-C-USA. Hopkinson led the league in total goals (12) and total points (28). He scored his second hat trick of his career with 3 goals vs. VMI. Hopkinson ranked 11th nationally in total goals, 15th nationally in total points.
Hopkinson completed his career fourth all-time at ODU with 33 career goals, third all-time at ODU in career points with 85, seventh all-time with 19 career assists. He helped lead ODU to second place in C-USA and to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He will graduate with a degree in business/accounting.
The Monarchs finished second in C-USA and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the 10th time in the last 12 years under head coach Alan Dawson.
