IRVING, Texas – Old Dominion University’s men’s tennis standout Carlos Lopez Villa was named to his second consecutive Conference USA All-Academic Team, as announced by conference officials on Wednesday. Lopez Villa, who is the No. 61 ranked player in the country, also made the C-USA All-Academic Team a year ago.
Lopez Villa has impressively participated in all 21 matches at the No. 1 singles slot for Old Dominion so far this season. The right-handed junior has been nationally ranked all year and carries an incredible 19-1 overall record, while leading his double’s teams to a 11-5 overall mark, as he and his partner were leading in the other four double’s matches before the clinch rule came into play.
Needless to say that Carlos has gotten it done on the court, but perhaps even more impressively Lopez Villa is shining in the classroom, as he is a double major of Economics and Finance and possess a cumulative GPA of 3.83. Lopez Villa has been named to the Dean’s List on three different occasions. The Madrid, Spain-native has garnered two C-USA Academic Medals, is a two-time C-USA Honor Roll student-athlete, as well as received the CAA Commissioner’s Academic Award.
